20 tools to find great shareable content

Great content that provides value (or amusement from time to time!) is at the essence of social media. A solid social media strategy should involve sharing great content, even if it is not yours. By sharing great content, your social media update will be more varied, and you will attract more friends, fans and followers to your social profiles.

But how do you find great content on a constant basis? Because absolutely anyone can have their say, the Internet is filled with both great and awful content – so how can you get to the best? How can you easily filter through all the junk to find the real gems that you can then share with your social media followers? Here are some of my favorite tools for finding and sharing content:

1. Scoop.it

Scoop.it is a content curation tool that ‘scoops’ stories. All you have to do is select all of your interests (design, business, education etc.) and you will then get the best stories that fall under the topics you selected. You can easily share on social networks from within the app.

2. Paper.li

3. Feedly

Ever since Google stopped their Reader service, I have started using Feedly and I have to say I couldn’t be happier with it. Once you’ve created your account, start looking for blogs and websites that you like, browse their lists of suggestions, start subscribing and then check it regularly to get your content fix. I personally think that Google Reader users will not be disappointed with this alternative. You can also easily share from within the app to all the major social networks. Feedly also have a smartphone and tablet app which is free and very easy to use, on both Android and iOS.

4. Flipboard

Flipboard is probably one of my favorite apps for both iOS and Android users. It allows you to create a magazine where you get personalized content to suit your interests, and you can also add your social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, making it easy to keep up to date with both news and blogs, as well as social networks. On their front page you will find tweets with the most popular and engaging stories from major websites such as Digg, Delicious, YouTube, TMZ, Mashable, Lifehacker and many others. I also like that they have a selection of popular photos from the web that you can easily tweet.

9. Reddit

Reddit might be best known by many for its funny memes, but the Reddit Front Page is consistently filled with very interesting stories about anything (really anything!). The front page is where you will find the most popular stories at the moment, but if you want stories on specific subjects, you can check through their numerous sub-reddits that deal with specific subjects and niches: politics, gaming, world news, technology, science and many others. Reddit is an incredible resource of both interesting and engaging stories and funny memes and videos.
